Centre for Social and Inter-Ethnic Cohesion (CENSIC) has said that they are totally in support of the call by the Emir of Kano Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II for family planning.
This was stated in a statement released by the centre on Friday and made available to our correspondent.
The group said that this was inevitable as research had shown that over-population, to a great extent, affects peace and security in any given society.
“As a developing country, the inability of the government to provide essential services for its citizens is traceable to over-population irrespective of the issues of corruption and mismanagement.
“We, therefore, call on the Federal Government to immediately address the problem of over-population as a matter of national security,” they said.
Centre for Social and Inter-Ethnic Cohesion (CENSIC) is an advocacy tank established in 2017, when a concert of developed minds met in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to propagate the benefits of a cohesive multi-tribal and multi-religious society.
“We promote real unity and cohesion in Nigeria by decoupling policies that promote inter-ethnic division or hatred.
“We stand for a secure and genuinely united Nigeria – not one that is united only in theory or geographical space.
“We desire a country, which laws provide equal operating space for all ethnic groups. We want a Nigeria where ethnicity or religion does not influence national or state policies.
“We strive to steer the minds of those in charge of statecraft in the right direction, to ensure only those with the most developed minds run the affairs of state,” they said in the statement.
