JTAH Foundation, on Friday 20th March, 2020 presented an excellence recognition award to Chief Superintendent of Police Tokunbo Abaniwonda during its annual National Women and Girl-Child Stakeholders Conference with the theme: “Raising A 21st Century Child (Emphasis On A Girl).”
Speakers across different professional bodies that included NGOs, education sector, journalism, film producers and many more dissected this year’s theme and made the event worth attending.
The conference was crowned with an award presented to CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda.
When asked how she felt to be given an excellence recognition award, Abaniwonda said, “it’s a call to do more. Today, we were able to realize that we have lots of things to do as a mother, and as a police officer. I pray God will give us the grace to achieve all our set goals,” she said.
A hard working officer, who had received honours for her professionalism in the Nigeria Police, for CSP Aboniwonda, policing means being in a position of trust to serve humanity and one must always strive to deliver and do the best.
That perhaps was what she has been doing since she joined the police force and rose to the position of a CSP and took over as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ipaja Division in Lagos State.
This is not the first award CSP Tokunbo was conferred with, she was awarded by Voice Out Nigerian News in 2019.
CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda is the first woman to emerge as the Divisional Police Officer of Ipaja Division of the Lagos Command; and the first to be posted as O/C Ogijo in Ogun State and DPO of Ijede in Lagos.
As the DPO of Ijede Division, Tokunbo conquered dreaded armed robbers, who used to terrorize Fagbemi Community, and she ensured they were decimated, arrested and prosecuted.
And in what seemed like a culture, she replicated similar exploits in Ipaja few months to her resumption as the DPO, when she arrested a ‘one chance’ armed robbery gang, who had been a thorn in the flesh of Ayobo/Ipaja people for several years unabated.
With genuine commitment, she attracted the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to a security summit in Ipaja, the first since the creation of Ipaja Division and this has drastically reduced the crime rate in Ipaja and its environs.
CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda is a pride to women, a feminine stallion, an indefatigable crime buster, investigator, prosecutor, jewel of inestimable value, who has chosen the prestigious job of securing and protecting lives and property through the Police Force of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Highly educated Abaniwonda is a very experienced ‘Federal Chief’ as most gallant CSPs are fondly called.
She is in-depth in knowledge, broad in scope and verse in strategies.
CSP Abaniwonda got enlisted into the force in the year 2002 and she has since rendered quality services within and outside Lagos State; touching her beats with midas, ensuring that the integrity and name of the force are sustained.
It is therefore worthy of mention that CSP Abaniwonda has risen through the ladder to her present enviable position.
She had been Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO); Admin Officer (AO); O/C Human Rights, Panti; DPO Anthony; Ijede etc.
Her gallantry remains a challenge and motivation at the same time and her resilience speaks volume of her triumphant existence in a male-dominated field; pointers to her great achievements.
At diverse points, CSP Aboniwonda was instrumental to the foiling and arresting of armed robbery syndicates in Ijede Division; the foiling of a serious communal clash between the Hausas and Yorubas in Petu-Oloja, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos; the stopping of traffic robbery menace at tunnel, under bridge, Anthony, Lagos amongst others.
Due to Abaniwonda’s zero tolerance for crime, while serving as DPO in Ijede, she ensured a joint operation with OP MESA and Onyabo to fight cultism to a standstill in that environment and during that phase and era, several armed robbers lost their lives in shootouts with the Police before sanity returned to the area.
CSP Abaniwonda, while working as the DPO of Anthony, nabbed and prosecuted over 10 armed robbers to stamp her authority and conquest over criminality.
And here in her present beat in Ayoba, well over 40 cultists operating in Ipaja/Ayobo Community had been busted amongst other security successes that emanated from her adherence to the strategic community policing initiative.
With records already hard to surpass, CSP Abaniwonda is presently ensuring relative peace, safety and security in Ipaja Division to the glory of God Almighty, and to the delight of her Commissioner of Police and sundry superiors. She is happily married with children.
CSP Abaniwonda attended Duro Oyedoyin primary school, ilamoye ijeshatedo Surulere in Lagos and
Unity secondary school Ado Ekiti.
She also had BA(hons) in philosophy and MBA(human resources) from prestigeous Lagos State University (LASU).
She’s also attended professional and executive courses.
In her message to JTAH Foundation she said; “I can’t wish them less, this is a great foundation, I’m so privileged and happy to be part of it.”
