History was made on Friday April 23, 2021, when the Coalition of Igbo women groups came Together to champion ” IGBONESS”A political drive urging for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to contest in 2023.
The event, which took place at Atinuke Complex along Okota Road in Lagos was witnessed by Igbo leaders within and outside Lagos.
Also in attendance were Igbo representatives from different parts of the geo-political zones of the country, who came together in support of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition in 2023.
Speaking at the event, Founder and National Coordinator of Asiwaju Progressive Forum, Hon. Adewale Adeogun, who described the event as centered around Asiwaju Tinubu, said, “I am a ‘Tinubuist, and a student of the school of Asiwaju.
“I believe in his principles. Having done a lot for Nigeria and Nigerians, we listened to the speech of the chairman of the occasion when he said, if you want to make it in Nigeria, come to Lagos.
“Some Igbo men would come to Lagos on motorcycles and they will go back home with Mercedes Benz or G-wagon and I believe Tinubu built the present Lagos through his proactive governance from 1999 to 2007.”
Speaking further, Hon. Adeogun said that Asiwaju Tinubu has made many friends across tribal, religious, and political lines.
He said that he deemed it fit to be present at the event, having been invited, because it involved Asiwaju Tinubu.
He added that Asiwaju Progressive Forum champions Asiwaju Tinubu, and that he believed that he is the best man for the job right now.
“Looking round Nigeria, though, Tinubu is yet to make a declaration for running for the presidency in 2023, there have been different drums dancing round him to contest for the presidency in 2023.
“We believe if he could stabilize Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, despite the challenges he faced, then he could do it for Nigeria as well. That’s why i joined other supporters to urge him to throw his heart into the ring for 2023,” he said.
Commending the host, who is the President of the Group, Dr. Vivian Obe, he said that he saw a man in her, and that he believed she’s not just a leader, but a leading leader that could champion things.
Adeogun stated that he’s an advocate of Tinubu school of thought as well, referring to the unveiling as unique, saying that one could the see caliber of people present there.
“Dr. Vivian Obi has crossed tribal, religious and political lines. I give it to her, she’s a woman of substance, I am very sure the sky would no longer be her limit but starting point.
“If Tinubu decides on his own probably because of personal reasons, we would follow whatever he says. This present government came to being because of the sagacity of Tinubu. President Buhari contested for four consecutive times and he lost.
“But when he went to Asiwaju Tinubu, he said, he would give him his people. We are praying and urging Tinubu to contest. If fate says no, whoever he brings we will follow and support, we will follow his direction,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the National Secretary of Tinubu Support Group, who also serves as the National Coordinator of Asiwaju Frontliner, Dr. Doyin Johnson, said that amalgamation of Asiwaju support groups led to the formation of the National Coalition of Tinubu support groups in order to bring all support groups together ahead of 2023.
He added that the primary aim of the organization is to mobilize 10million Nigerians to vote for Tinubu, adding that the process has commenced already.
“We have almost 60 organizations that are registered with us. When the proper job starts, we will know how to move forward so that we can have a common goal towards Asiwaju Tinubu 2023 agenda,” Dr. Doyin said.
He reiterated that Asiwaju Tinubu has been an outstanding leader, and that when one talks of qualitative leadership, leaders that build, and make leaders, Tinubu is number one.
He said that by virtue of what Tinubu has done in the past, he’s the most qualified person for the post of the President of Nigeria in 2023.
“in 1991, he was a member of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). I was a student then, we were the ones throwing stones. They were the ones doing the financing.
“Almighty God would help us, Asiwaju is a special man, an outstanding man, and I learned a lot from him. When you talk of forgiveness, spirit of giving, ruggedness, a caring heart and selflessness, Asiwaju is the man. He thinks of others before himself. I think Nigeria needs that type of man,” he said.
Talking about how the organization would manage the influx of different groups that support Asiwaju, Johnson said that he understood the political structures very well, and that he would bring his knowledge to bear, adding that with his experience in politics, and as a doctorate degree holder, bringing the organizations together is not a problem.
“The people who are capable and qualified are handling each section, because we know what it takes to be a good leader, we learned that from him.
“Very soon there’s going to be a world press conference about pleading with Asiwaju Tinubu to contest for the presidency in 2023. Asiwaju has been tested, he is very credible, competent, experienced and he is the only person that could do it from the southwest,” he said.
Also speaking at the inauguration of Tinubu Igboness, Chairman/Managing Director of Eatrich Farm, Amb. Sam Afolabi, who was a special guest, said he was proud to be part of it and that he would always be proud of the organisers.
“For a very long time, women had been excluded from politics. It’s time to understand women inclusion in politics. I like an opportunity like this, where women are empowered.
“We must begin to embrace women in politics, in business, and in all spheres of life. For a long time in Africa, women had been left in the kitchen. It’s high time women were allowed to have their say because women rule the world.
Women decide everything at home.
“In my office, I have more than 500 staffs, more than 400 of them are women. When you see them at work, they work harder, they give their very best, so why not give them a platform to do more,” he said.
Talking about ‘Tinubu Igboness’, the host, who’s also Founder/ National President of Ochiora Igbo Women Council/ Igboness organizations, Chief Dr (Mrs.) Vivian Obi, popularly called Sunshine, said that it was an event with an exceptional grace.
“It has given me the ability to do more for my passion, because seeing everybody coming to support and make the day memorable makes me happy.
“The candidate we are talking about is a man loved by everyone and people of like minds, who want the country to move forward,” she said.
Defending her choice of supporting a Yoruba, when Igbos are agitating for presidency in 2023, Obi said that though she’s an Igbo by birth, she has lived the better part of her life in Lagos, does her business in Lagos, and that the development of Lagos has come around her and that she is ready to move forward.
